Robert W. Matrona

ROBERT (BOB) W. MATRONA 1946-2024

Robert Walter Matrona, age 78, peacefully passed away October 13, 2024 after a valiant fight with MDS.  He was a proud veteran serving his country in the U.S. NAVY from 1964-1967 as a pipefitter/fireman on the USS Neosho.  Bob was a loving and extremely devoted husband and best friend of 57 years to Kathleen J. (Carse) Matrona.  He loved nature, raised monarch butterflies and Koi in his yard, he loved taking long hikes, traveling and feeding the birds. Bob was an avid train enthusiast and model builder, collecting and designing models since early childhood.  After discharge from the Navy he was employed for 35 years building locomotives for GM at Electromotive in La Grange, IL. Bob always put his wife and children first and was always there for his family, friends and neighbors.  He touched everyone he met with love and kindness. A devoted and loving father of Patricia L. (Matrona) (Mark) Oehrlein & Colleen M. (Matrona) Fischer; proud Grandfather of David D. Scott, Kayla M. (Scott) (Denzel) Lee & Briana M. Matrona; adoring Great-Grandfather to Rashad W. Lee, Paige J. Tate, Ronan J. O ‘Neil & Lola L. Boyen; beloved son of the late Richard M. & Charlotte (Abraham) Matrona; dear brother of the late Charles (Carol Kasher) Matrona and Shirley (Matrona)(Terry) Colclasure and is survived by his sister Charlene (Matrona) (James) Burton and was a loving Uncle of all his nieces and nephews.
