Virginia Hillis, beloved wife and mother, age 69, passed away peacefully with her husband and family by her side on December 9, 2024.
Virginia was born in Van Nuys, CA, and passed away in Crown Point, IN, where she resided for the past 7 years.
Virginia created a beautiful life with her husband, Dave, of 48 years, spent mainly in Bakersfield, CA, with their two children, Christine and Anthony. Her childhood years were in Canyon Country, CA where her love of horses began and continued throughout her years. Virginia loved the beach, relished in books, never met an animal she didn’t adore, had a beautiful singing voice, and was an accomplished quilter. While in Bakersfield in 1984, Virginia and Dave demonstrated their love of baseball as founding members of Bakersfield Southwest Little League, where Virginia became the ultimate “baseball mom”. Her years of support paid off when she was able to witness her husband coach and her son play in the Babe Ruth World Series, where they were back to back champions in ’97 and ’98.
Virginia worked many years as the Church Administrator at Greenacres First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing with her daughter as worship leaders on the Praise Team. She eventually retired from a job she really loved at Aspen Builders, in Tehachapi, CA. In retirement while living in Indiana, her greatest joy was watching her grandson, Carter play baseball, basketball and football. She shined proudly in the stands, regardless if it was local or out of state, as his biggest fan. Virginia’s heart knew no bounds and her light and love will live on in our hearts. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend will be missed greatly by her husband Dave, her children Christine (Adam) and Anthony (Nicole), grandsons Dominic, Carter, Evan, Clayton and Cade, and siblings Angela and Richard (Micalann); fur babies Zoe and Kobe
We will proudly celebrate Virginia’s beautiful life, at her home, on December 12th and ask In lieu of flowers to please donate to your local animal shelter.
